Volunteering is not just about giving back to the community; it's also about discovering new places, making lifelong friends, and creating unforgettable memories. Recently, our volunteer group from Aii had the chance to explore one of India’s most iconic landmarks: India Gate in New Delhi. Here’s a glimpse of our fun-filled evening.
A Historic Landmark
India Gate, standing tall at 42 meters, is a war memorial dedicated to the 82,000 soldiers of the undivided Indian Army who died during World War I. This magnificent structure, designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens, is not just a monument; it’s a symbol of national pride and historical significance.
An Evening to Remember
Our group arrived at India Gate in the evening, just as the sun was setting. The monument was beautifully lit up in the vibrant colors of the Indian flag - saffron, white, and green. The illumination added a magical touch to the already majestic structure, making it a perfect backdrop for our adventure.
Capturing Moments
As we walked towards the monument, we couldn't resist taking numerous photos. The atmosphere was lively, with locals and tourists alike enjoying the cool evening breeze and the scenic beauty. The sight of the illuminated India Gate, surrounded by a bustling crowd, was truly mesmerizing.
We managed to capture a perfect moment with two of our volunteers posing in front of the gate. Their smiles reflected the joy and excitement of exploring such a significant landmark. It was a perfect blend of history and camaraderie, encapsulating the essence of our volunteering journey.
Exploring the Surroundings
After spending some time at the gate, we decided to explore the nearby areas. The lawns around India Gate are a popular spot for picnics and evening strolls. We indulged in some local street food, trying out delicacies like chaat and kulfi, adding a culinary adventure to our evening.
Reflecting on the Experience
Visiting India Gate was not just about sightseeing; it was about understanding a part of India's history and heritage. For our volunteers, it was an enriching experience that went beyond their regular volunteering activities. It allowed them to connect with the local culture and appreciate the historical context of the place they are serving.
As we continue our journey with Aii, exploring new places and creating new memories are essential parts of our volunteer experience. India Gate was just the beginning, and we look forward to many more such adventures. Each outing brings us closer as a group and enriches our understanding of the diverse world we live in.
Stay tuned for more stories from our volunteers as we continue to explore, learn, and grow together!
